Hundreds Pledge to Lead a Drug Free Life at Community Day in Inglewood
(ContentDesk) January 17, 2006 -- Hundreds of new Drug-Free Marshals raised their right hands and pledged to be drug-free this Saturday in Inglewood.
This made the Drug-Free Marshals booth
one of the hottest attractions for young people at the 11th Annual Community Day, co-sponsored by the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department and the Sheriffs Multi-Faith Clergy Council.
Held at the Department of Public Social Services Building on West Imperial Highway, Community Day, despite the rainy weather, again attracted thousands of people looking to take advantage of the large job fair, car, clothing and food give-aways, home buyers expo and other exhibits to better themselves and the community.The Drug-Free Marshals, besides getting young people to pledge to live drug-free lives, distributed hundreds of new drug information booklets.
The "The Truth About Drugs" series, published by the Church of Scientology's "Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life" campaign, contains factual information on numerous drugs including crack, crystal meth, marijuana, ecstasy, heroin and LSD.
Each booklet provides the medical and mental effects of the drug, what ex-users have to say about it, the drug's statistics and what makes it dangerous to use and abuse.
The purpose is to provide youth with facts so that they can make up their own minds on the subject.
More than 5 million drug awareness booklets are now in circulation around the planet.
"Young people need to have facts about the drugs.
It is the best preventative against drug abuse and these new drug information booklets are pure gold for that," stated Noelle North, Drug-Free Marshals coordinator for Los Angeles.

The Church of Scientology created and launched the Drug-Free Marshals youth drug-education and prevention program in 1993 when 200 children between the ages of 6 and 13 were sworn in by the director of the FBIs Drug Demand Reduction Program at the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre in Hollywood.
Children demonstrate their commitment as Drug-Free Marshals by pledging to remain drug-free and encouraging their peers to do the same.
Since its inception, more than 3.2 million youth
